Frugal Romance
Posted on 29. Oct, 2008 by admin in Chasing Date Night
There you are, stuck between high gas prices and impending Christmas bills. The last thing you need to do is spend a bunch of money on date night. That’s why this month I’ve found frugal ways to woo each other.
Fine Dining
Cook a meal together. Make it a date by choosing a new recipe and shopping for the ingredients together. Hire a neighborhood babysitter for an hour while you shop. Wait until the kids are snug in bed before you start cooking. (Late dinners are sexy!) Watch a movie while you enjoy your meal, or just enjoy the conversation. Either way, light lots of candles.
Casual Dining
Kids have a birthday party to attend? A soccer game? You don’t have to be Super Parents. Cut yourself some slack and skip out on one. Trust me, there will be more. Take your sweetie to Krispy Crème and re-connect over a dozen glazed. It’s fun, forbidden, and just over five bucks!
World Class Entertainment
Check out the University of Arkansas, NWACC, or your local high school for productions of popular plays and musicals. Ozark Poetry Slam is quite an adventure for word lovers. Google them to find their events listed on MySpace. Many coffee shops throughout the area have live music. And don’t forget to look for deals. LifePlusKids.com often gives away tickets to Walton Arts Center events.
Expanded Horizons
Sign up for an inexpensive class together. This creates a standing date to spend quality time together. Try cooking, drawing, or Tai Chi – especially if it’s something neither of you thought you’d ever do!
Take a Walk
Consider bundling up and taking some time to commune with nature. From Tanyard Creek to Lake Fayetteville and everywhere in between, Northwest Arkansas is a treasure of walking trails. If that’s not your speed, head up to the Pinnacle Promenade for window shopping and people watching. It’s Iit up beautifully in the evenings.
Memory Making
This last one is for the more romantic among you. Take your camera or buy a cheap disposable one and spend the day taking photos together. You can designate a theme for the day or just take any crazy shot that comes to mind. Once finished, get the photos developed in one hour and create a memory album together for the day that will live on forever. I love this idea. If you see my husband and I taking photos around town, watch out for the flying pigs.
