Taking the Scary out of Halloween Date Night

Taking the Scary out of Halloween Date Night

Heavy make-up, slinky outfits, parties galore. Halloween’s great for date night, right? It can be, but if you’re not prepared it can also be scary. Follow these tips to avoid spooking your spouse.

Dress Appropriately

I can tell you from experience that there’s almost nothing worse than showing up at a costume party in something that’s not quite right. I once arrived at a Halloween party full of sexy nurses, tempting cops, and alluring witches – and me wearing hillbilly teeth. Granted, my husband was wearing them too so we were totally rocking the couple thing. But still, looking deliberately ugly in a roomful of beautiful people doesn’t boost the hot factor.

On the other hand, walking your stiletto-footed, fish-netted, fake-lash-wearing self into a party full of pumpkins and Raggedy Ann’s isn’t going to do much for your self esteem either. Make sure you know what’s appropriate (no matter how inappropriate that may be…) wherever you’re going.

Hint: pirates are sexier than hillbillies.

Watch the Witch’s Potion

This next piece of advice goes for any date night, but is especially important to remember on big party nights like Halloween. While you may want to try every concoction that slides down the bar or floats by on a tray, watch out! The first few will make you giddy and the next will leave you passed out sideways on the bed, Halloween makeup staining the new comforter. Not Sexy.

Try alternating your beverages. Have something spirited followed by soda or flavored water, then back to your poison. You’ll finish the night feeling good (and with plenty of energy) without having sacrificed on the festive factor.

Work Together on the Planning

Part of the fun of getting dressed up as a couple is the planning. It can be great to work on a project together. I can attest that after fourteen years of marriage, sometimes the last thing I want to do is talk to my husband. (Sorry, babe.) But organizing something fun together, working toward a common yet frivolous goal is a good thing.

Once you get into costume, don’t forget to take lots of pictures. Someday you just might be too old to feel like dressing up and you’ll want the proof of how fun (and sexy) you were!
