Top 5 Ways to Date Yourself

Posted on 01. Mar, 2009 by admin in Chasing Date Night

Part of the fun of dating is putting our best selves out on display. We dress up, smile, and take interest in new things. Just because you don’t have a date doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all that. Whether you’re a single parent or your spouse is out of town on business, sometimes it’s great to date yourself.

Top 5 ways to date yourself:

1. Wine & Dine Yourself
One of the simplest ways to date yourself is to make a special meal by creating a shiny, sparkly setting. Go buy something nice at Pottery Barn and take care in serving yourself for a change. Cook or order something fun or exotic, turn off the TV, switch on your favorite music, uncork a bottle of wine and set the table for one. Don’t forget to light a candle!

2. Search Your Soul
Dating is all about getting to know someone. Whether it’s someone new or your familiar mate, we learn new things about people by listening. So how about you listen to yourself? Take some time to think about your own goals and dreams. Grab a notebook and head to Barnes & Noble or Borders to peruse through the self-help, inspiration, or business aisles. You’ll get all kinds of great ideas and exercises to help you articulate your values and vision for your own life.

3. Treat Yourself to a Movie Marathon.
There is something so nice about not having to negotiate what movie you’ll watch. When you’re without a date, make the most of it by renting a few of your favorite movies and snuggling up with yourself. Don’t forget the popcorn and movie candy. Pay per view movies on demand make it so easy to rent the perfect line-up just for you.

4. Discover the Arts
Take in something artistic that you never have before. If nothing else, it’ll give you something to talk about on your next ‘real’ date. TheatreSquared is hosting the Discovery Arkansas: New Play Festival March 27th and 28th at Nadine Baum Studios. Be brave and check it out!

5. Go Shopping
Why do we always save the good outfits for someone else? Take an evening off to buy the kind of fabulous outfit you’d normally wear only on a date. Then wear it to make yourself feel great anytime – maybe on your next date with yourself!

Anyone can benefit from a little personal pampering. So put on your best behavior and get out and do something special just for you.
