Blood Drive in Honor of Sam Galen — Wednesday, March 31st, 2010, 11am to 6pm at the First United Methodist Church in Bentonville

Sam Galen is 8 years old and a third-grader at R.E. Baker Elementary. He was diagnosed with medulloblastoma – a type of brain tumor – in May 2009. Sam has required several transfusions during his radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and will probably need many more over the next few months. Our family is so grateful for the compassion and generosity of the Northwest Arkansas community. People continue to ask how they can help. Donating blood is a great way to help Sam and many other patients. Well over a million people are diagnosed with cancer every year. Many will need blood, sometimes daily, during their treatments.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our family. Sam had successful surgeries at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, radiation at CARTI and continues chemotherapy at ACH and Highlands Oncology. He continues to work hard to regain his strength. We look forward to finishing chemotherapy this Spring! — The Galen Family – Steve, Susie, Stephanie & Sam

This month we will welcome Spring with open arms. It seems like just yesterday that I was wrapping Christmas presents and preparing for the winter storm that ushered in 2010. There is no doubt that the older we get, the faster time flies.
With this realization, I made the decision that I would appreciate the 24 hours a day that I am given and make the most of them.

One local mother who knows this as well as anyone is Michelle Duggar. With 19 children she has definitely learned to master the art of time. Her life changed drastically when baby 19 arrived early. Read her update written by Lela Davidson on page 14.

One of the things that I have done with my new notion of time was give local non-profits the opportunity to share with the rest of Northwest Arkansas the wonderful acts of charity that they spend their time performing. While putting this issue together I was given the unique chance to learn about some outstanding people, hear and share their wonderful stories with you, and give the exposure to the non-profits that they deserve.

I hope you will be inspired to donate, share your time, or connect with one or all of the organizations featured in this issue.
