Hello Friends! I want to thank you for your amazing support and kind phone calls, letters and e-mails. Peekaboo is designed to be a community effort, and I want each of you to feel a part of the project and use it as a sounding board for your thoughts, stories, tips, and advice. This is the perfect venue to connect with parents and families all over Northwest Arkansas and I am so thankful to be doing this in such a loving community that has embraced Peekaboo as its own!

The July issue of Peekaboo has many great contributions from local moms, dads, doctors, and community experts. To find out how to cool down an emotionally heated child read “Turning Down the Heat” by Lisa Fitzgibbons, Ph.D on page 18. Journey along with the Conrad family on a vacation they’ll never forget when you read “A Vacation Tale worthy of the Big Screen” on page 28. And for a little fun, test your knowledge of N.W. Arkansas in an original c r o s s w o r d puzzle where all the answers to the clues come from right here in NWA.

In the spirit of “community” I would like to pose a challenge to the Peekaboo readers all across the area to do something special for someone this month. Money is tight for everyone right now and with rising gas prices that seem to have no end, everyone is feeling “financially” stressed. Add the grueling heat of the Summer and you have the perfect formula to get the “grumps.” So, instead of staying indoors with the air conditioner, complaining that money is tight, go out and brighten someone’s day.

If you know of a family who isn’t able to take their kids on vacation this year offer to take them to the pool and a movie or invite them over for a backyard camping adventure. You can help your children make cards and take them to a local nursing home, or organize a bake sale or lemonade stand with proceeds going to a local charity.

I wish my name was ‘Oprah’ so I could promise a new car for your good deeds, but since I am not that connected I can only promise that you will feel good about yourself and the positive light you have been for someone else.
